Second Grade Performs Poems at Local Coffee

By Jasmine Perry-Ives

On Friday, March 16, second grade and their teachers went to The Flat Iron Cafe to perform their poems. All different types of poems were written by the students. This was part of their poetry curriculum. Mrs.Verespy, who is friends with Jana Bryan,  the owner of The Flat Iron invited the second grade to read their poems. Lailah Hildreth said “I was scared but I practiced.” Caitlyn Bingham said “I practiced by inviting people over to my house to hear my poems.”

Mrs.Verespy and her students performed on the small stage at the local coffee shop.  Some parents attended, as well as, the customers at the cafe. Hanging above the stage was a mirrored glass ball that made an impression on both teacher and students.  The second grade followed up their performance by reading their poems at Monday Morning Meeting for the rest of the school.
