The History of the Olympics

The Olympics started with the Greek people.  The first Olympics took place in the 776 BC in  Olympia, Greece.  The first Olympics had only one event, it was running race. Other events were added like wrestling and chariot races in later years. The Greeks started the Olympics to celebrate the Greek god Zeus. Only young free Greek men were allowed to compete. Women were not able to compete and married woman we’re not even allowed to watch!  Women did not complete compete the  Olympics until 1900.   The first modern Olympics was in Athens, Greece in the 1896. The 2018 Winter Olympics starts on February 8 2018. Check it out!
